In 2017 Karin Swerink, Chief editor of the Dutch Vogue magazine, made some controversial comments regarding diversity in fashion. Karin Swerink commented on the absence of talented black models in Holland when asked on the lack of diversity on the covers in an interview with Metro News. In response, Dutch black girls joined the #BlackGirlMagic movement and promoted their beauty and accomplishments on social media. Inspired by the movement, I followed a few girls who were actively trying to diversify the fashion scene in Holland. I found these young women on Instagram and Facebook and we collaborated on a beauty shoot in which they celebrate their skin colour and femininity.
